One thing worth checking - is the paging file on the C Drive? If so, yous could motility information technology to another drive and that would free up some space straight away.

I'd too expect to run across if there are other things that could exist be moved / removed also. Information technology's surprising how many temp files etc get left lying around, taking up space.

Other than that, there are some 3rd party utiltiies for managing partitions - Partition Magic is a really useful product to accept in your toolkit.

Chuck another bulldoze in, or allocate more space if its a VM

run -> cmd -> diskpart

listing book

select volume x (where x is the volume you lot want)

extend

Nosotros accept complimentary'd up space to the point there is aught more we can free up... the page file is on the D: drive and the temp folders are empty however that only costless's upward a few 100mb to which the Microsoft update then absorb all that space...

I currently downloaded the trial version of Acronis Disk Director and also tried Diskpart.exe however Diskpart.exe comes up with the error bulletin "the book y'all selected may not exist extended" Even tho we have unallocated space in the same sectionalisation of the drive...  (Microsoft say that there is a hotfix for that error, but when i tried to install the hot ready it says it'south already in the latest service pack)

OK, I remember this may be your answer

Diskpart cannot extend system/boot partitions (in Windows 2003 server) while the organisation is booted, it would seem.

So Diskpart needs to exist used from a bootable device without the OS running or a tertiary party software is needed (too whilst the system isn't booted)

Also, if its a virtual machine you could cheat by attaching the drive to another VM, extending it from that VM and and so reattach information technology to the original?

Could it be run from the MSdos command prompt  when using the Server 2003 CD to boot into Cmd Prompt?

Quite possibly - I haven't tried information technology myself simply in theory that should work as the system is non booted

Attempt to apply PARAGON SUITE or just the Difficult Disk  SUITE  of PARAGON. It'southward quite powerful when information technology comes in resizing partition  and image back up for baremetal recovery. I believe it supports RAID assortment.

never had much luck with disk park, practise a google for extpart.exe, its a dell tool that they created a few years ago when they shipped out a load of laptops with a tiny OS segmentation, works bully and is free.

Is this a RAID array or non?  If information technology is, information technology volition exist tough to move, so you may desire to wait at tools like Acronis or Paragon.  If it isn't it will exist easier to move the drive to some other box and extend the partition.

Information technology is a Raid set up-upward yes

I've never had any luck trying to change the kicking drive while in Windows.  I would propose Paragon or something similar equally well - create their boot CD and practice what you need to do from that.

With RAID you oftentimes terminate upwardly with the "no contiguous infinite"  problem as well.  If you really wanted to get creative, you lot could install another example of Windows on a USB Hard disk and boot to that and so meet if you tin can resize.  You might be forced to copy off the other data partitions and delete them so that you get the contiguous infinite you need to resize and so copy them dorsum.

Either apply the Dell extpart app (command line) or boot disk like gparted tin be used to extend the partition.

How much infinite do yous need to re-size the drive?

Was this mail service helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

Looking at the screenshot, I don't think face-to-face infinite is necessarily an issue hither.

The only space I'd say you need to resize the drive is the extra space into which you want to make the drive larger

We sprung for the Unlimited license, as we take many servers that we needed to adjust the partitions. Worked like a champ. It will reboot the machine while it resizes the partitions, and both partitions can have data.

I think they just want you to run into the interface and have it show you what it can do.  Making a single modify is what nigh people are after and then if they allow you lot do that you lot wouldn't really have any reason to buy information technology.  At least, I'm guessing that'southward what they are thinking.
